Snuffle Mat

The Excellent Horse Snuffle Mat is an innovative feeding mat designed to stimulate a horse’s natural foraging behaviour and provide mental enrichment. By hiding feed or treats within the structure of the mat, the horse is encouraged to search and work for its food. This promotes calmness, focus and engagement in the daily routine. The snuffle mat is ideal for reducing boredom in the stable, paddock or during transport, while offering a playful and rewarding feeding experience. Thanks to its soft material, the mat is also suitable for sensitive noses.

Benefits of the Snuffle Mat

• Stimulates natural foraging and sniffing behaviour
• Helps reduce boredom and stable vices
• Provides mental stimulation and enrichment
• Ideal as a reward or slow feeding solution
• Suitable for stable, paddock and transport use
• Soft and gentle on sensitive noses
• Easy to clean and reusable

A smart way to combine feeding with behaviour and wellbeing.

Function & background

In nature, horses spend a large part of the day searching for food. In modern stable environments, this natural behaviour is often limited, which can lead to boredom or unwanted behaviour.

The Snuffle Mat addresses this by:

• slowing down feed intake (slow feeding)
• encouraging active searching
• providing mental stimulation

This not only extends feeding time, but also contributes to the overall wellbeing and relaxation of the horse.

Suitable for

• Horses that are prone to boredom
• Horses on box rest or with limited movement
• Sport horses (mental relaxation)
• Young horses (learning through play)
• Use during transport or in trailers

Use

Place the snuffle mat on a flat surface and fill it with:

• pellets or muesli
• mash
• pieces of fruit or vegetables
• treats or rewards

Allow the horse to search and eat at its own pace. After use, the mat can easily be rinsed and hung to dry.

Material & features

• Material: 100% silicone
• Soft and durable
• Hygienic and easy to clean
• Equipped with a hanging option

Dimensions

• 50 x 50 cm

Why choose a snuffle mat?

A snuffle mat is more than just a feeding tool. It contributes to:

• mental stimulation
• reduction of stress and boredom
• slower, more natural feeding behaviour
• a more natural daily routine

A simple solution with a big impact on horse welfare.
