Velari Pelham Flex Double Jointed Short Medium - combines a double-jointed Flex mouthpiece with the short shanks of a Pelham bit. This brings together direct action on the horse's mouth with adjustable leverage through the poll and, when used with a curb chain, the chin. The short shanks provide comparatively mild leverage, making the bit suitable for riders looking to combine direct rein communication with additional control.

The 18 mm mouthpiece features a firm synthetic coating with a rigid core. According to the manufacturer, the material is non-toxic, horse-safe and suitable for long-term use. Its smooth, non-metallic surface avoids the cold feel associated with traditional metal mouthpieces while maintaining clear transmission of the rein aids. The double-jointed construction distributes pressure evenly across the tongue and bars and reduces the nutcracker effect associated with single-jointed mouthpieces.

By reducing upward movement towards the roof of the mouth, the double-jointed construction is also suitable for horses with a lower palate according to the manufacturer. The Pelham can be used with two sets of reins or a bit converter, allowing the rider to regulate the balance between direct and leverage action. A curb chain can also be used for additional stability and pressure distribution. The Velari Pelham Flex Double Jointed Short Medium is suitable for show jumping, eventing and schooling when a combination of direct contact and adjustable Pelham action is required.
