Leather Gag Eggbutt

Velari Leather Gag Eggbutt - combines a straight leather mouthpiece with an eggbutt gag configuration, bringing together natural materials, a stable feel and responsive rein action. Designed for horses that benefit from consistent contact and thoughtful support when developing balance, this bit is particularly suited to experienced riders with quiet, established hands.

The eggbutt rings provide a stable lateral connection between the mouthpiece and the cheeks. Through the gag mechanism, with the corresponding cheekpieces running through the rings, rein contact creates an additional action that may have a lifting effect. This can be useful when schooling horses that tend to travel on the forehand or need support in developing greater balance and self-carriage. The degree of influence depends on the fitting, the rider's hands and the individual horse's response.

The straight leather mouthpiece offers a natural, yielding alternative to conventional metal mouthpieces. As the horse chews and salivates, the leather can gradually become more supple and adapt to the contours of the mouth. Its unjointed construction provides a consistent contact surface without joint movement, making it an option for horses that prefer a stable, uninterrupted feel. Regular conditioning with olive oil or sunflower oil and careful inspection help maintain the leather's condition throughout use.
