Pelham Double Jointed Short Sweet Iron

Velari Pelham Double Jointed Short Sweet Iron - combines the direct action of a snaffle with the adjustable leverage of a Pelham. Its short shanks provide comparatively mild leverage, distributing the action between the mouth and poll and, when used with a curb chain, the chin. The bit can be ridden with two sets of reins or with bit converters, allowing the rider to fine-tune the balance between direct and leverage action.

The 16 mm double-jointed mouthpiece is made from Sweet Iron. During use, the material naturally oxidizes and develops a light patina. According to the manufacturer, this process encourages salivation and can support bit acceptance and a supple contact. The double-jointed construction distributes pressure evenly across the tongue and bars while reducing the nutcracker effect associated with a single-jointed mouthpiece.

The reduced upward movement of the double-jointed mouthpiece towards the roof of the mouth also makes this construction suitable for horses with a lower palate according to the manufacturer. The short Pelham shanks allow the leverage action to be regulated, while a curb chain can be used for additional stability and pressure distribution. The Velari Pelham Double Jointed Short Sweet Iron is suited to riders looking to combine direct rein aids with additional, controlled Pelham action for show jumping, eventing or schooling.
