Pelham Double Jointed Short Sweet Iron

Velari Pelham Double Jointed Short Sweet Iron - combines the direct action of a snaffle with the adjustable leverage of a Pelham. Its short shanks provide comparatively mild leverage, distributing the action between the mouth and poll and, when used with a curb chain, the chin. The bit can be ridden with two sets of reins or with bit converters, allowing the rider to fine-tune the balance between direct and leverage action.

The 16 mm double-jointed mouthpiece is made from Sweet Iron. During use, the material naturally oxidizes and develops a light patina. According to the manufacturer, this process encourages salivation and can support bit acceptance and a supple contact. The double-jointed construction distributes pressure evenly across the tongue and bars while reducing the nutcracker effect associated with a single-jointed mouthpiece.

The reduced upward movement of the double-jointed mouthpiece towards the roof of the mouth also makes this construction suitable for horses with a lower palate according to the manufacturer. The short Pelham shanks allow the leverage action to be regulated, while a curb chain can be used for additional stability and pressure distribution.
