Full Cheek Gag Double Jointed Sweet Iron

Velari Full Cheek Gag Double Jointed Sweet Iron -  combines the lateral guidance of full cheek sides with the lifting action of a gag bit. Its double-jointed sweet iron mouthpiece provides balanced pressure distribution, while the extended full cheek sides stabilise the bit laterally. This combination is particularly suited to horses that tend to lean onto the forehand or require additional support with balance, straightness and turning.

The 16 mm double-jointed mouthpiece distributes pressure evenly across the tongue and bars according to the manufacturer, while reducing the nutcracker effect associated with single-jointed mouthpieces. With less upward movement towards the roof of the mouth, the construction can also be suitable for horses with a lower palate. The sweet iron naturally oxidises during use and, according to the manufacturer, the resulting taste can encourage salivation and acceptance of the bit.

The full cheek sides provide lateral stability and support clear guidance of the horse's shoulders, which can be particularly beneficial for younger or less balanced horses. At the same time, the gag mechanism, activated through the cheekpieces, creates a lifting action together with poll pressure. The Velari Full Cheek Gag Double Jointed Sweet Iron is therefore suited to schooling, jumping, cross-training and advanced flatwork where additional guidance, balance and elevation are required.
